The Sea of Japan also brings excellent seafood, easily sampled at Omicho Market.

Begin with Kenrokuen, a strolling garden that shifts character with each season and serves as the symbol of Kanazawa. Pairing it with the adjacent Kanazawa Castle Park reveals how the castle town was structured. The Higashi Chaya district lines up latticed machiya where you can try gold-leaf ice cream, sweets, and craft shops. The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art is a major draw, capturing how tradition and the contemporary coexist here. For seafood, Omicho Market is essential.

Kanazawa's center is compact, so the loop bus and walking efficiently cover the main sights. Kenrokuen and the 21st Century Museum get crowded on weekends and holidays, so arriving right at opening is more comfortable. Winters bring frequent snow and rain, so pack for wet footing and build in indoor stops. Seafood is freshest and liveliest in the morning at the market, and visiting before lunch keeps waits short.
